COATING

After a botched job in our own personal garage, we decided an educated, trained and professional team of installers was needed in our Mid Tennessee area. Having a career in the Coating Inspection Field and being NACE Certified Coating Inspectors, we decided to offer Epoxy, Polyaspartic floor coatings, and different paint systems from Sherwin Williams Industrial including Armorseal lines.

This allows us to recommend the best system for your application and not try to sell a universal or single one product fits all solution.

Get the best garage floor protection available!

As you can see from our list, there’s a lot to consider when choosing the right product to protect your garage floor.

SPF Coating can take care of your floor upgrade needs with either an installation of interlocking floor tiles or a coating application of the best garage floor protection solution available.

SPF Coating is your local Certified V-8 High Performance Floor Coating Installer. Take your floors to the next level with a V-8 Hybrid XT Vinyl Chip System installed by SPF Coating's trained professionals. This proven 4 coat system is industrial strength, UV Stable, chemical resistant, flexible, and easy to clean.

In as little as a day, a polyaspartic floor coating can be applied in your garage that will last for years and make your garage stand out.

Finishing your new hard floors is a big choice– it’s permanent, it’s expensive, and it takes along time to get the job done. An epoxy floor coating for your garage, gym, or shop is the perfect way to give your flooring a clean and polished finish that’s functional and durable enough to last for years to come.

Just like we said, though, an epoxy floor is a commitment. Once you’ve installed floor epoxy, it’s an equally big job to remove. You should make sure you know all of the ins and outs of epoxy coating for floors before you hire a contractor or start pouring your own epoxy. Let’s cover everything you ever wanted to know (and plenty that you didn’t) about epoxy floor coatings! Continue reading below to see all of the information on epoxy, poly-urea blends, and polyaspartic enhanced systems.

Poly urea-based products

The first potential problem with polyurea and polyaspartic concrete coatings is that if the moisture content is too high in the concrete, the coating will not bond properly to the concrete.

When a polyurea coating comes in contact with concrete, it bonds into the concrete while searching for moisture. Once the coating comes in contact with any moisture, it stops bonding to the concrete.

If there is too much moisture in the concrete, the coating will not bond down into the concrete as far as it should. It will sit on top of the concrete, like paint or epoxy, and therefore will not be as durable, last as long, or cure properly.

How can this problem be avoided?

Before any work is done to a concrete surface to prepare it for a coating, the moisture content must be tested.
If the moisture content is too high, a moisture barrier is needed before applying the base coat.

This moisture barrier will then put the concrete in the ideal condition for the coating to bond and cure properly on the concrete.

Epoxy flooring is a sturdy, shiny, medium-hard flooring material that’s suitable for heavy-duty use in a range of indoor and outdoor applications. Epoxy paint is a two-part solvent made from a thick resin and a hardener. The resin material is the part of the epoxy that’s dyed, and the hardener reacts with the resin to help the mixture set and solidify. The solution hardens into a thick, durable plastic that’s soft enough to walk on comfortably but resilient enough to resist dents and scratches. This makes epoxy garage floor coating popular in high-traffic environments where carpets or hardwood floors would quickly fray, scuff, nick, tear, and wear out.

Garages

A thick layer of epoxy floor coating is sturdy enough to hold your car, and it looks far more attractive in your home than an oil-stained concrete floor. Garage floor epoxy is wildly popular because it’s both functional and aesthetic. Epoxy paint floors are smooth and high-gloss making them far easier to clean than concrete, and you can pick any color under the sun for your garage floor paint to match your car or your interior decor.

With the heavy equipment and machinery found in garages, your boring cement floor will get scratched and chipped quickly. Garage floor epoxy makes it far easier to maintain your garage floor paint and avoid costly, time-consuming repairs.

Basements

Just like your garage, your basement is home to tons of heavy equipment from your washer & dryer to your furnace and water heater. With all the water running through some of these machines, you don’t want to install carpet or wood floors down there, but cement flooring and stone foundations are ugly and don’t lend themselves to a properly finished basement.

Garage floor epoxy in the basement is the perfect water-safe choice, and the attractive high-gloss finish of epoxy paint gives you plenty of options to decorate your finished basement. Get an epoxy floor for your basement for a functional and stylish finish you’ll be able to enjoy for decades.

Restrooms

Skip the ugly linoleum and the expensive, fragile tile in your bathrooms. An epoxy floor has a smooth, high-gloss finish that gives your bathroom the perfect shine to go with the mirrors and metals that make bathroom decor so appealing. Epoxy coating is tough and waterproof making it a great choice for large bathrooms and shower spaces in gyms, spas, or even your master bathroom at home.

Cleaning your epoxy coating is a breeze, and in a space like your bathroom, you want to spend as little time cleaning up messes as possible. Never scrub grout again with an ultra-tough 100%-solids epoxy floor coating in one solid piece for your bathroom.

Your store will pop with a glossy, shiny garage floor paint job mixed to your color preferences and poured to the style you prefer. 100%-solids epoxy is easy to clean and lasts for years to keep your maintenance costs down while you do business.

commercial-icon

Commercial Offices

Shared office spaces in cities both big and small see thousands of visitors throughout the week, and keeping the common spaces in these buildings clean and tidy is no walk in the park. Epoxy topcoat is the de facto choice in shared office buildings around the world because it’s highly durable and easy to maintain despite the heavy demands placed on it all day every day.

Keep your commercial properties looking crisper and cleaner with an epoxy floor topcoat. You can get high-performance epoxy paint at great prices from SPF Services to make sure your tenants and their clients have modern, clean offices they’ll rent from you for years to come.

Industrial Shops

Your factory floor is a busy place with dozens of workers bustling about and expensive heavy machinery humming all night long. At the end of the shift, cleanup can be as easy or as hard as you make it on your staff. Choose to make your shop a breeze to clean with an epoxy floor coating system. 1-part epoxy and 2-part epoxy floor products both make a great coat for your shop’s floor so your cleanup and maintenance can be easier than it’s ever been before.

With a smooth and tough epoxy floor, you’re less exposed to injury hazards associated with poor working conditions. A dingy floor is a trip or a slip just waiting to happen– make sure your shop floor is safe with a floor made from water-based epoxies available in the color of your choice.

gym-icon

Gymnasiums

Few public places are loaded with heavy-duty equipment like the gym. Practically everything in your gym is heavy enough to bust right through normal concrete garage floors, and gyms are sweaty, messy places that need routine cleaning to stay sanitary.

Commercial epoxies are a great choice for the surface of your gym floor. You can get 1-part or 2-part epoxy products in multiple color options, and an application of some epoxy topcoat to your flooring gives them a smooth, ultra-hard finish you can count on.

Pools

Anywhere there’s water, there’s got to be flooring and drainage to support it. Otherwise, you’re in for a water damage disaster. Epoxy flooring products are the best choice for your pool area– they’re waterproof, they’re nice and smooth, and the paints are available in a range of color options to suit any style.

Keep your pool cleaner with a 100%-solids epoxy application to the surface of your pool deck. You’ll have a far easier time with maintenance, and you won’t have to worry about seepage causing extensive damage.

Pros & Cons of Epoxy
Floor Coating

The application of a coat of epoxy is fantastic for a wide range of flooring needs. As we’ve covered, epoxy products are highly durable, waterproof, and they have a glossy, attractive finish. They also last for decades with proper care ensuring you won’t have to re-apply your coat or get new flooring for many years to come.

On the other hand, epoxy flooring has a more industrial sort of look to it, and it’s not the best choice for residential decor. Except for your bathroom, you won’t want to use epoxy floor coating in most areas of your personal home.

owning-icon

Owning an Epoxy Floor

One of the biggest benefits of owning an epoxy floor is that it’s easy to take care of. They’re smooth and easy to clean, and they’re highly resistant to damage, so you don’t have to worry about scratches and scuff marks in most cases. Still, as with most floors, you want to avoid sliding furniture across your epoxy surface, and you want to keep the floors clean as much as possible to avoid dirt and residue buildups over time.

cleaning

CLEANING

You can clean your epoxy floors using traditional home floor cleaning products with a mop and bucket. Since cured epoxies are inert, you don’t have to worry about a chemical reaction with the cleaning products you select. If it’s a floor cleaner, it’s safe to use on your epoxy paints.
